FutureBB 1.3 is mostly complete, and all that's left is final testing. If you want to try it out now, you can download it on GitHub (just be warned that there might be some lingering bugs), or you can wait until we release it for real on Wednesday, July 8. On that day, we will also upgrade the forums on this website to FutureBB 1.3.

FutureBB 1.3 is another important milestone in the development of FutureBB, and features the following improvements over version 1.2 (in addition to many general improvements and bug fixes):

  • A smoother forum editor
  • Creating new user groups based on old groups
  • The ability to create entire templates (as opposed to just CSS stylesheets)
  • An easier to use censoring page
  • The ability to add UI "hooks" for extensions
  • Archiving forums
  • BBCode tables
  • Custom date/time formats
  • mailto: links
  • A better timezone system based on geographical location rather than simply UTC offset
  • BBCode in private messages
  • Identifying BBCode errors
  • ...and many more minor fixes and improvements!

Just wondering--why are you making a huge deal out of a point version, it doesn't seem like one to me.

Pretty much all major releases of FutureBB are "point versions". Unless we make such a massive amount of changes that we're essentially rewriting the software, it will still be version 1.X.

Also, the changes in this version are actually pretty significant. The UI hook feature was understated in the original message. That feature means that you can make extensions without actually modifying the software core (which also gives the added bonus of them still working if you upgrade the software). For example, with this version, we are going to make a reCAPTCHA extension available, which was made possible by the hook system.
